Women Rock – Dallas Symphony Orchestra

BonBon September 8, 2018 12 Comments

Are you overdue for a date night or maybe a girls’ night out this weekend? Maybe you should consider going to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at Meyerson Symphony Center for an evening of Classical Rock n’ Roll music. This weekend, September 8-9, you can watch a concert at a different venue than you are probably used to and pay homage to the most influential singers and songwriters who change rock n’ roll forever.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra presents “Women Rock”, conducted by Grammy award winner and pops conductor, Jeff Tyzik, and along with the powerful voices of Cassidy Catanzaro, Katrina Rose, and Shayna Steele, it will surely make your evening an extraordinary one.

Happiest Here
Happiest Here

I got to watch the performance with my husband and my dear friends last night at the Meyerson Symphony Center. It was my friend’s birthday last Tuesday, and there was no better way I could think of how to treat her out but to go to the Symphony. We all love good music and having a good time so this performance was perfect.

It was indeed an extraordinary night for us. Watching Jeff Tyzik conducting is a treat in itself but the vocalists were just AMAZING!!! It was a night full of my childhood memories; all the songs got me recalling my childhood in the 80s. Oh boy… I wanted to sing along, but most of the time I was staring in awe at the performer’s voices. What a night! It’s a must see!

Many of the songs were written and sung by the famous Carole King. Others were sung by the likes of Tina Turner, Pat Benatar, Janis Joplin which are all expertly arranged by Maestro Tyzik. There are also personal stories shared by the vocalists and a homage to the late Aretha Franklin with the song “Pink Cadillac.”

Spoiler alert: I cried a bit when Cassidy Catanzaro sang the “You’ve Got a Friend.” It was beautiful. Well… one other tear-jerking moment was when Katrina Rose (The Voice contestant) sang “These Dreams”.

Go…. grab four friends and have fun!!! Use code RESPECT for a Women Rock discount. Share your experience and use hashtag “MYDSO. ROCK you weekend Y’all!!!

I’m actually going to visit my best friend in Dallas next month. She and I both love good music too and have an appreciation for the symphony. I wonder if Women Rock will still be playing then, do you know?

Sounds like a wonderful evening with your husband and friends. I haven’t been to a symphony since High school (in Japan) with my siblings and cousins. I need to go again as it’s such a wonderful experience.

Ethiopian food is an fundamental part of DC's rest Ethiopian food is an fundamental part of DC's restaurant scene! Ethiopian dishes are typically served with injera (a giant flat pancake looking bread made from teff, wheat, barley or millet). And, "wots" will be served with injera ( a traditional stew consisting of different vegetables or meat cooked in a spicy sauce and served on top of a rolled out piece of injera). Most traditional Ethiopian food is eaten with the hands which is done by tearing off a piece of injera and using it to pick up wots or other food.

We had such a lovely evening at Chercher Ethiopian restaurant with friends. Such an unpretentious place, but the food is aaahmazing. They are Michelin recommended and totally worth it🫶💯 #chercherethiopianrestaurant #ethiopianfood #washingtondc
