Day trip to RB Golf Club & Resort

BonBon September 4, 2019 6 Comments

A little over an hour drive from the suburb of Plano, TX is the newly renovated RB Golf Club & Resort. The clubhouse and many of the holes offer beautiful overlooking views of the Bridgeport Lake. It’s an easy drive as the Resort is conveniently located on State Highway 380 and so it’s is a great day trip out of the DFW metroplex to play a round of golf or just to get away from the hustle of the city and relax in the countryside while enjoying a drink or some food at The Lakeview Tavern & Grill, the Resort’s own onsite bar and restaurant.

I went with my husband, two kids, and my Mom for an overnight stay at the Resort’s vacation rental alongside the golf course and just minutes walk away from the clubhouse. It was nothing fancy (think Airbnb) but very spacious and comfortable. With three bedrooms, a large living area, a dining area and decently equipped kitchen; it was perfect for all of us (the kids also gave their thumbs up for the internet, and my hubby even tested out and approved the Vudu streaming on the smart TV). There is a small outside area backing up to the runway of the first hole which also has an outdoor grill if you want to hang outside with a few friends in the evening. RB Golf & Resort are running a promotion right now called “Play and Stay” which says it all; so check it out and mention my name and you may get a little special attention.

Beautiful day for some golf!

RB Golf Club & Resort, Runaway Bay TX

We arrived at the course after lunch and decided to practice our swing at the driving range right after checking in. Ty, at Pro Shop, was accommodating and very friendly to my kids who happened to be so excited about getting to “hit some balls” (if they can even hit them. HA). I like that driving range was covered, else if not, then we were all going to melt with Texas’ heat. Yes, we sweated it out for 2 hours and oh boy… how I miss this game! I was so excited to get out onto the course the next day!!!

We had our dinner at their onsite bar and restaurant, Lakeview Tavern & Grill. There is ample space at the bar for you to have a drink after a round of golf and they also have booths and tables in case you want to sit down and eat some of the classic shareables they have on the menu.

The Resort has also upped their game by hiring a new chef, Christopher Gabbert, to bring some flair to the menu alongside some of the traditional pub favorites. Chef Chris gave us a preview of the dishes that will be going onto the menu starting September.

With Chef Christopher Gabbert

The September Menu Includes:

  • Southern Shrimp Ceviche
  • Bourbon Bacon Jam Burger
  • Monte Cristo w/ Smoked Turkey – Swiss Cheese and Raspberry Chipotle
  • Teriyaki Salmon Bowl w/ Jasmine Rice
The salmon was cooked to perfection.
The sliders rocked! And the Monte Cristo sandwich was paired well with the dip.
With my family. And yes, the kids got some corn dogs and fries:)

Thank You, Chef Chris! The food was all yummy!

While waiting for our food, we had a great time relaxing and listening to some music. There was a band playing at that night.

A band playing while having dinner during sunset. It was such a lovely evening.

Breathtaking view! And, my beautiful girl!
Beautiful day to make friends in this beautiful place! (My girl with her new friend)

There are also facilities to cater for larger parties or special events in one of their two banquet dining areas. While we ate indoors, it looked like there was some limited outdoor seating available under some trees with views overlooking the course and the lake in the distance (they also have some rocking chairs on the porch outside the banquet areas).

Perfect spot to chill and enjoy some peace!
Private event space with a gorgeous view of the golf course and the lake.

Thank You, RB Golf and Resort for hosting our stay.

Here are a few more photos during our stay. Enjoy…

Looks like a day well spent, from all perspective. Given the fantastic views and the music, dinner would have already tasted better. All in all it was a great experience.

Ethiopian food is an fundamental part of DC's rest Ethiopian food is an fundamental part of DC's restaurant scene! Ethiopian dishes are typically served with injera (a giant flat pancake looking bread made from teff, wheat, barley or millet). And, "wots" will be served with injera ( a traditional stew consisting of different vegetables or meat cooked in a spicy sauce and served on top of a rolled out piece of injera). Most traditional Ethiopian food is eaten with the hands which is done by tearing off a piece of injera and using it to pick up wots or other food.

We had such a lovely evening at Chercher Ethiopian restaurant with friends. Such an unpretentious place, but the food is aaahmazing. They are Michelin recommended and totally worth it🫶💯 #chercherethiopianrestaurant #ethiopianfood #washingtondc
