There is no better time to visit Texas Hill Country than in springtime. With the help of the spring rains the wildflowers bloom around the towns and along the highways. The temperatures are mild this time of year and great to enjoy all the festivals that are happening.
We visited Texas Hill Country during a long weekend holiday last year with friends. It was a fun and enjoyable journey filled with very picturesque scenes and cool adventures. The trip gave us a different perspective of Texas and it’s cultural heritage. Definitely a MUST do road trip if you are in the South. Aside from the beautiful scenery as you drive all throughout the hills; did I mention, plenty of vineyards and wines to choose from, too?
Take a look at some areas we’ve visited:
Fredericksburg Downtown Stroll – Main St.
You gotta have a stroll on the Main Street in Fredericksburg! What a little charmer in the middle of Texas… lots of shops, restaurants, art galleries, and wine-tasting rooms.

Vineyards and Wineries
Vineyards and wineries are abundant in the Texas Hill Country and each of them offers different unique flavors – from sweet whites to deep reds. For those who wanted to learn more about the wine-making process, there are a lot of tour operators which offer Vineyard tours… and of course the ‘mandatory’ wine tasting ;).
Our family decided to go to Becker’s Vineyards which is a kid-friendly vineyard and it didn’t disappoint; we had such a lovely afternoon. It offered a scenic outside seating with live music and even some artisan pizza from a wood fired oven (please note the pizza was on offering from a 3rd party vendor on site and is seasonal).

It was a lovely day! Kids played around and we got to taste some of their wines while listening to some live music.

Wildflowers Galore
What else can be better to see during Springtime at Fredericksburg than to visit The Wildseed Farms!!! They’ve been growing fields of wildflowers for the production of seed for over 35 years. WOW!!! It is truly beautiful!!!
Visitors can have a leisurely walk on the trails (shhh… and off trails too) and take pictures. And plant lovers can buy some plants and seeds of individual mixes and varieties.

Check out their website for daily schedules, list of festivals, and during spring for the farm’s bloom update.
Enchanted ROCK, a Texas State Natural Area
It’s not just a Rock… if you are wondering. There is a reason why it is called Enchanted… it’s the culmination of the beautiful scenery around, the huge magical ROCK dome and a mysterious legend.
It is a great hike for everyone including the little ones. Our group’s youngest, a 2 yr old, hiked with us to the top with relative ease.

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park
If you are looking for a lovely walk, a quiet time to relax and enjoy nature then this is a perfect place for you. SUch a beautiful park with gorgeous scenery of rolling hills, flowers and trees.

National Museum of the Pacific War
This is such a gem in Fredericksburg, the childhood home of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. A must visit while you are in the city. My kids were engaged the whole time; it is defintiely for everyone in the family.

Where to EAT?
There are a lot of restaurants on Fredericksburg’s Main street to choose from. We tried Auslander to try some German food and beer. Some of the waitresses even wore the traditional German dress – the Dirndl. The food was pretty good and we enjoyed our visit.
The Woerner Warehouse Cafe was a hidden gem off the main street; we absolutely love this surprise! It was such a unique place for a meal, located inside an iconic Woerner Feed Store, which is full of antique finds. It’s a must visit while in Fredericksburg.

Where to STAY?
There are a lot of accommodation options in Fredericksburg. Tons of B&Bs, guesthouses, inns and guest ranches to choose from. Also available are many hotels/ motels and campsites around.
We stayed at Inn on Baron Creek during our stay. It’s located just a block from Main Street which was a huge plus.

So… what are you waiting for?!? Plan a trip to the beautiful Fredericksburg now!!! Buzz me if you need some help planning your trip… happy to assist. xoxo
Travel. Learn. Evolve.
Thank you so much for sharing all this wonderful impressions with us. The Flowers, omg – so beautiful. I also loved the pic with the blue bus – awesome shots.
Texas in Spring looks really resplendent. The colours of spring can be seen everywhere. I can see you had a great time. The Becker’s Vineyards looks like a great place to head for some heady experiences and great food. I loved looking at the pictures of the wildflowers, they are absolutely stunning.
You had me at wine and wildflowers! I always think of East Texas as being dry and desolate, but this really gave me a whole other persepective. Great photos!
Looks like you had an amazing time – particularly envious of your sunny trip to the vineyard, you can’t beat a nice glass of white in the springtime sun.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve visited 5 US states so far but haven’t managed to get to Texas yet. It’s on the list though and this post will help in the planning.
Swathes of open land and greenery, brings to mind scenery from great us literature. Not so much tempted by the winery but would love to see the natural landscapes.
I love Texas! Your article is so inspiring to visit again! ? and your pics are great. I’m going to pour myself a glass of wine now!!
The red wildflowers are beautiful and i also would’ve gone crazy taking pictures if i had been there, love all your pictures by the way. the enchanted rock is yet another place i would’ve loved to go to and of course, nothing like visiting a winery and tasting some great wines. what a lovely getaway!
All those poppies! I’d never want to leave 🙂
You had me at wine, poppies, and hiking 🙂 what a cool place, for families or couples. And I would love to have seen that adorable Volkswagen parade in person! Thanks for sharing!
Fredericksburg looks so lovely! I’d really love to see the historic houses in downtown and run through the poppies fields! We’ll probably visit Texas in the near future, so we’ll stop in Fredericksburg for sure!
I love this post, I wish I was at that winery right now! Texas looks a lovely place in the spring!
I Must admit with all the snow all around the world this is my first experience with a springtime post. And it all looks so beautiful in these pictures. Texas vineyard looks like a complete weekend destination with a little bit of everything. I also liked the place you have put up in specially the backyard of the hotel. Those stairs carved in such greenery is incredibly beautiful.
Wow – what a wonderful looking destination – the colours of those flowers jUST jump out, are they poppies? It looks like spring is a perfect time to visit. And I love that there are wineries to visit
YES, poppies. Aren’t they gorgeous?!? it was so beautiful!!! Fredericksburg is totally worth a trip:)
I was sold as soon as you mentioned the wineries. Fredericksburg sounds like a great place for a vacation. The family photos look very nice and reminded me of my own childhood.
I know, rgt? WHo doesn’t like to visit wineries? 🙂 LOL It’s beautiful out there!!!
Fantastic post. I never heard of Fredericksburg before but like to check out this charming area. for me, spring is a better time of year to travel. autumn is all right, just find the leaves get in the way (but are pretty for the perfect photo)
You should and it won’t disappoint you… it’s one of those places with character. We LOVE it there!!! Problem with Springtime travels is always the weather, but it was gorgeous during this trip:)
This looks like a great place for a family day out. The combination of kids and vineyard is an essential for survival in my life – why give up on grown up fun and interests when kids are there!
EXACTLY!!! Kids are very adaptable anyways and their kind of fun is so simple… and it’s always great to be outdoors with the kids to connect with nature…
I love that photo with the kids playing in the pond. From where I come from, most parents would not allow their kids to play in the water with outside clothes.
And yes, every place looks better during spring. But I also love the fall season.
Thank you for dropping by. I let my kids be kids and enjoy as much as they can… They can always change their clothes when it’s too dirty to bear… LOL
LOVE Spring and Fall as well… shows the contrast of beauty of nature.
