Beautiful Beaches of St. Marteen and St. Martin

BonBon June 20, 2017 20 Comments

St. Marteen and St. Martin offers a lot of things for travelers and the beaches won’t disappoint you. Like most Caribbean islands, it’s a destination to relax, enjoy the sand, sun, and crystal clear blue waters. These are some of the beaches that we visited during our stay.

Maho Beach

Famous for its beautiful white sand beach and proximity to the airport runway, in which makes it to one of the coolest beaches in the world. People come here to chill and relax but some also come here to get an adrenaline rush. Airplanes fly so low over the beach, you almost can reach out and touch them. Thrill-seekers think the airplanes flying low over Maho Beach is awesome and I thought so too. However, be aware, as two pilots from Delta Airlines told me on our first night, it is extremely dangerous and people have been hurt. For me, it was one of those parent decisions you have to make and as I had the kids with me I decided to just experience it safely from a little further along the beach.  The Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, where we stayed at, also gives a good vantage point of the airplanes landing and all those people holding on to the fence; you even get to see some blown away into the water 🙂

While we enjoyed watching airplanes landing and taking off, we also had a fantastic time just relaxing while the kids were having fun.

Mullet Bay Beach

Just a few minutes from Maho Beach, Mullet Bay beach offers calm, crystal clear blue water and white sand beach. It’s best for kids and for sunbathing and swimming.

Dawn Beach

This is just south of the border; it is famous for the amazing sunrises in which it gets its name and the clear water that’s perfect for snorkeling.  The Westin Dawn Beach Resort & Spa dominates much of this shoreline (with beach chairs that previous travelers say are free to use).

Orient Beach

The most popular one and if you want some party fun, this is the place to be. Clothing is optional so you might see some nude sunbathers around. Well…not just popular for the nude beach but for the white sand beach, lots of restaurants/ bars around and tons of water sports activities to choose from.

It wasn't that busy at this part of the beach.

Baie de l’Embouchure

We passed by at this beach from Orient Beach on the way to Dawn Beach. This area is protected and the water is so calm and clear. The uninhabited Isle is accessible by taking a short stroll through the shallow water.

Pinel Island

Truly, a little gem in the middle of the Caribbean; just a few minutes boat ride from the St. Marteen/ St. Martin, Pinel island is a must visit. Perfect place to soak into the Caribbean water and the sun.  And if you opt for some adventure, you can do a lot of activities like kayaking, Stand Up Paddleboarding, Snorkeling and even hiking.

 Anse Marcel Beach

My favorite beach!!! We stayed at Riu Palace Resort which offered us what I felt was the best beach of the island. The bay is protected on both sides which make the water here very calm. This is perfect for families with little ones.

Ethiopian food is an fundamental part of DC's rest Ethiopian food is an fundamental part of DC's restaurant scene! Ethiopian dishes are typically served with injera (a giant flat pancake looking bread made from teff, wheat, barley or millet). And, "wots" will be served with injera ( a traditional stew consisting of different vegetables or meat cooked in a spicy sauce and served on top of a rolled out piece of injera). Most traditional Ethiopian food is eaten with the hands which is done by tearing off a piece of injera and using it to pick up wots or other food.

We had such a lovely evening at Chercher Ethiopian restaurant with friends. Such an unpretentious place, but the food is aaahmazing. They are Michelin recommended and totally worth it🫶💯 #chercherethiopianrestaurant #ethiopianfood #washingtondc
